March 14, 2024 FCM meeting notes

Atlanta Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Magicians

March 14, 2024

The March meeting of the FCM was held at the home of John and Julia Jefferson.  The following were in attendance:  John and Julia Jefferson; Eugene and Melissa MacBrayer; Leland Davis; Randy Burt; Ricky Henson.

As always, we began our evening with prayer and a dinner of spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, bread and dessert.  Seems like we all enjoy spaghetti!!  Our fellowship at the table was one of sharing and love.  What beautiful friendships we have made over the years.  We did miss our absent members but we know there are always truly good reasons for their absence.

MINUTES:

Reminder:  Minutes from previous meetings can be found at the FCM.org website.  Do the following:  Go to FCM.org; under live events, click on local chapters; click on view chapter list; click on Georgia, Atlanta.  You can then view all of the posts from the beginning of our chapter meetings—March 10, 2011.

We began our meeting with prayer and thanksgiving for our group.  We remembered Beth and Nels Salo who were planning to attend but could not, due to an illness in the family.

John then reminded everyone of the FCM Conference near Indianapolis, IN which will be July 28—August 1, 2024.  John and I plan to be there, along with Leland and Brenda.  John also reminded all that Leland is the new Secretary of the FCM and has already begun his job.  He has volunteered to take all of the many video tapes and the DVDs that John has had for years as the Archivist for the FCM, and transfer them to a more updated form which Beth can put some of the information online.  John had transferred all of the video tapes starting from the early 70s, onto DVDs and had kept detailed notes of the names of the performers on the tapes.  These moments in the history of the FCM are priceless.  Thanks, John, Beth and Leland!!

On March 10, 2011, John and I opened our home to the very first meeting of the Atlanta Chapter of the FCM.  It has been our pleasure and joy to host this wonderful group of Christian magicians and their families for the last thirteen years.  We have met dozens of magicians who have shown up at our door, many of whom have learned so much and shared their love and talents but have gone their separate ways.  Others have continued to come and fellowship with us and to demonstrate the many ways they use magical illusions to spread the Gospel. Beautiful friendships have developed—ones that we all treasure.

John and I have finally decided, after much prayer and thought, that it is time for us to move on to another chapter in our lives.  John has already sold his large magic illusions and is in the process of giving away/selling the small effects that he has collected over the years.  Needless to say, we have stopped doing Christian magic shows and events.  Thus said, we have decided to retire from hosting our Atlanta Chapter. It has not been an easy decision, as we have grown very fond of our group!   We have been blessed in so many ways.  John asked the group to please pray about perhaps continuing the meetings at one of their homes or perhaps at a church.  We do hope that the group will be able to stay together.

And now, the fun began!

John then told everyone that there were two tables of his personal magic effects that he would like for them to take home!  John spent quite a lot of time picking out tricks he felt they might like.  Many grocery bags were filled to the brim!  For the last several years John has brought home a carload of magic that he had purchased at the FCM flea market, and has given it away to our members.  It has been a lot of fun for all of us—especially John.

Well, that was not the end of the giving.  Tricky Ricky pulled out a couple of boxes of zip lock bags full of magic to give to the members.  Thanks, Ricky!!

We officially closed the meeting with prayer and spent the rest of our time just talking and reminiscing about our time together over the years.

It is difficult to say, but we do not know when or if we will meet as a group again.  If not, hopefully we will still stay connected.  If so, it will be the continuation of many blessings.

John and I wish you all this

Irish Blessing

May the road rise up to meet you

May the wind be always at your back

May the sun shine warm upon your face

And rains fall softly upon your fields

And until we meet again

May the Lord hold you in the

Hollow of His hand.

Remember:

Keep the “SON” shining…
