The September meeting of the Atlanta Chapter of the FCM was held at the home of John and Julia Jefferson. Those in attendance were John and Julia Jefferson, Jim Magus, Randy Burt, Leland Davis and Rick and Angela Jeffers.
After enjoying part of Duane Laflin’s video “Seriously Fun Silk Magic…and Other Things” we adjourned to the magic room where we shared our fabulous trip experiences from the summer and several great magic effects!
Several of us are planning to attend the Music City Created Ministries Conference in Goodlettsville, TN on Nov. 8-10. We will move our regular meeting to Nov. 15.
Attached are the detailed minutes of the September meeting.
The Atlanta Chapter of the FCM met on September 13, 2012 at the home of John and Julia Jefferson. Those in attendance were: John and Julia Jefferson, Rick and Angela Jeffers, Leland Davis, Jim Magus and Randy Burt.
Our video for the evening was part of the Duane Laflin “Seriously Fun Silk Magic…and Other Things” video. We thoroughly enjoyed learning some great magic and look forward to the rest of the video next month.
We adjourned to the magic room where Jim led us in prayer.
John began with a mental trick. Each person wrote a 5-digit number on a piece of paper. Angela added the numbers and John showed that he had predicted that very number!! John then gave out written instructions as to how to perform the trick.
John then proposed several dates for David Ginn to come and give us a lecture/workshop. We all agreed on January 12, 2013. We all agreed that $20 per family was a good price and that we would guarantee David at least $100. Jim said he would announce the lecture to his GA Magic Club.
Next up was information on Duane Laflin’s conference entitled ADVANCE. It will be held in Michigan. Hopefully some of will be able to attend. Six of us are planning to attend the conference in Goodlettsville, Tennessee on Nov. 8-10, 2012.
Randy reported on his mission trip to Oklahoma. Ricky Henson and Randy have been ministering to the Indians there for 20 years. There were about 450 children in attendance—many received Christ. It is so rewarding to them to see the children from years ago who have become wonderful Christian examples and many are pastors of churches. Oh, Randy also enjoyed the Duck Hunters’ Warehouse –on the way to the site!!
Randy performed the zipper effect—Afghan Bands relating it to the gospel.
Leland reported on the FCM conference that was held in July/August in Marion, IN. He showed the conference book and a daily bulletin explaining the sequence of events. He then passed around old copies of the Conjurer and the Voice which had pictures of many of the speakers at this years’ conference on the front of them!—Ice McDonald (Jim knows him), Len Camp, Steve Varro, etc. Leland then told about a tip he learned about slush powder— spray the cup with hair spray to keep the powder from falling out!! He then mentioned that repositional glue sticks could come in handy. Leland showed us the great magic case he bought at the conference. He used Jack Alexander’s idea of folding silks neatly and storing them in a folder. Next, Leland brought out a jar and placed 3 balls in it—they fit nicely with space around them. He said the jar represents our life. If we put God first, represented by the 3 balls, we can then fill our lives with actions that will glorify God and we will be able to be the kind of Christian witness that we should be. (put in unpopped corn and all spaces are filled and all fits nicely) If, however, we fill our lives with our own will and our own selfishness and our own worldly actions and then try to fit God in, we will fail and will not be as we should be in Christ. (put the popping corn in the jar and then try to fit in the 3 balls—won’t work—balls won’t fit) What a great witnessing illustration!!! Thanks, Leland.
Leland then shared a lesson that David Ginn taught. David was saying that he always felt like he didn’t “have” a testimony in that he had been a Christian for most of his life and had no special revelation that he remembered. David said that someone recently shared with him that it was perfectly alright—that there are 3 ways people come to the Lord: 1. A “Damascus” experience
2. An intellectual study resulting in conversion
3. Or, growing up in the church and not knowing exactly when you believed, only that you know you do
David even said that many people are very envious of the 3rd type of Christian, because they had to suffer so much before they came to Christ! Great lesson.
Rick then showed us his new magic box that he had made. He demonstrated how it became a table and then showed us an effect using his grand new table!! He displayed 3 types of artificial sweeteners and said that they are a lot like some of our churches and our artificial teachings. He had someone choose a sweetener and then showed how he had predicted which one he would pick, as God knows exactly what we will choose to do with our lives. Rick then gave each of us a packet with all of the props to do the trick!! Thanks, Rick.
Jim showed us a “Voodoo Poker” card trick! He said he was sure we could come up with a more appropriate name!! It was an excellent close-up trick that could actually entertain a large audience. Jim used his skills to manipulate the cards so that the “right” person got the best hand. Rick came up with a gospel application: given a choice, man can choose to place his faith in the Bible –which is the winning hand.
John showed us his glow in the dark rope he purchased at Harbor Freight. Should come in handy for something!!
John wrapped up the meeting by showing us a great , easy to perform, close-up effect. He used a leather bracelet which has a bead on each end. John had Leland interlock his fingers. He placed the leather bracelet inside of Leland’s locked arms. John then proceeded to cause the bracelet to “escape through Leland’s arm”!!!John had prepared several bracelets to be given to each member, and we all practiced the effect on each other. Thank you, John for the magic trick and explanation.
We concluded with prayer and thoughts for the safety of our absent members and for our return next month.
Our next meeting will be October 11, 2012.
